Odisha: Man arrested for raping 13-year-old girl in Jajpur
A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl at a village in Odisha's Jajpur district. The incident happened at Nanpur village in Balichandrapur area on Friday night when the 13-year-old girl was returning home after witnessing a marriage procession, Inspector In-Charge of Balichandrapur police station Rakesh Chandra Tripathy said. The accused, also from Nanpur village, was arrested yesterday.
Accused dragged the victim to isolated place finding her alone
Finding the girl alone, the accused had dragged her to a secluded place on the Birupa river bank and raped her. After committing the crime, he threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone and fled the scene, the IIC said. The girl returned home that night and narrated the incident to her mother, who approached the police on Saturday.
Accused had been booked under IPC and POCSO
On the basis of the victim's mother's complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused from his residence yesterday. The police conducted a medical examination of both the girl and the accused. The accused has been booked under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act, the police said.
