Shame and shock: 20-year-old youth rapes 100-year-old woman in Bengal
What makes for an incident that requires condemnation from all quarters, a 100-year-old woman was raped by a 20-year-old man in West Bengal, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place in the late hours of Monday night in the state's Nadia district. The accused, who is a neighbor of the victim, was arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Finding woman alone in room, accused raped her
The accused was identified as Argha Biswas alias Abhijit. On Monday night, he entered the room of the victim, where she was sleeping alone and raped her. Her cries for help were heard by neighbors and they rushed to her rescue. Biswas was caught red-handed. The victim was sent for medical examination on Tuesday and released from the hospital after the tests were conducted.
Victim's son lodges complaint, accused arrested
At Chakdaha police station, the victim's son lodged a complaint. A senior officer said Biswas was charged under IPC Section 376 (rape). About the shameful incident, Ranjit Sur, vice-president of Association for Protection of Democratic Rights said, "We recently heard about septuagenarians being raped. But that a 100-year-old can be a victim of such crimes is unheard of".
Recently, a tribal woman was raped by her relative
Earlier this week, a tribal woman was raped by her relative and his accomplice in the state's Jalpaiguri area. If raping her wasn't enough, the accused inserted rods in her private parts. The case led to widespread anger among locals who ransacked the homes of the accused. They were arrested, subsequently, and charged with relevant sections of IPC.
