J&K: 2 terrorists neutralized in Sopore encounter
Two terrorists have been neutralized in an ongoing operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, according to official reports. The encounter, which began on Thursday at Check Mohalla Nowpora in the Sopore area of north Kashmir, has also resulted in injuries to two army personnel. The operation extended into its second day on Friday, following a night of relative calm.
Injured soldiers evacuated from encounter site, receiving medical treatment
The injured soldiers were promptly evacuated from the encounter site and are currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital. A civilian was also caught in the crossfire near the encounter site on Thursday, sustaining injuries. Security forces previously stated that they had intelligence regarding the presence of two terrorists in the region, prompting a cordon and search operation.
Classwork across all schools suspended
During the search operation, terrorists opened fire on security officers, culminating in a gun battle on Friday morning. Meanwhile, as a precaution, the administration has suspended all classes in the affected areas. All government and private educational institutions, including colleges coming under Sopore tehsil's jurisdiction, will stay closed on Friday. The operation is still ongoing, as security personnel suspect that there may be other terrorists hiding in the neighborhood.
