2 Army officers assaulted, their female friend gang-raped at gunpoint
In a horrific incident, two young Indian Army officers and their female friends were brutally attacked by a group of men near the Jam Gate in Madhya Pradesh late Tuesday. One of the women was reportedly gang-raped at gunpoint by the assailants. Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Rupesh Dwivedi confirmed that six suspects have been identified, with two already detained from nearby jungles.
Attackers demand ransom, escape into forest
According to TOI, around 2:30am, one of the officers and his female friend were in the car when six-seven men attacked them. When the other pair heard the confrontation, they ran down from a nearby hillock. The attackers held the pair they had attacked in the car hostage at gunpoint and asked the other officer to bring ₹10 lakh in ransom. This gave him a chance to inform his seniors at Mhow, who alerted police.
Officers injured, suspects detained in gang-rape case
Officers from Dial-100 and military personnel quickly arrived at the scene, but the attackers fled when they saw the incoming vehicles. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived from Mhow—located 30km away—the woman had already been gang-raped. The two suspects were later found in the jungles near the crime scene. One of them has a previous record of loot registered against him in 2016, as per Indore Rural SP Hitika Vasal. Both Army officers sustained injuries during the mob attack.
Officers' picnic night turns into nightmare
The two Army officers, aged 23 and 24, are currently undergoing the Young Officers course at Infantry School, Mhow. They had gone out for a picnic on Tuesday with their two female friends. According to the complaint filed by one of the lieutenants, they had driven to Ahilya Gate near Jam Gate on Mhow-Mandleshwar road on Tuesday night.
Medical examination confirms gang-rape, officers injured
All four victims were brought to Mhow Civil Hospital around 6:30am. A medical examination confirmed that one of the women had been gang-raped. The duty doctor also reported injuries on both officers' bodies. "The complainant has alleged that the woman who was with him was raped, and they were looted as well," SP Vasal said. Badgonda police have registered a case under BNS sections 70 (gang-rape), 310-2 (dacoity), 308-2 (extortion) and 115-2 (voluntarily causing hurt), plus sections of Arms Act.
