Engineering aspirant fails to clear JEE Main, commits suicide
On Monday, a 19-year-old boy named Sahil from Telangana allegedly shot himself dead after he failed to clear the Joint Entrance Examination. According to reports, he didn't inform his family about the result and used the licensed gun of his father, an ex-army man. The results for JEE Main 2019 were declared on Monday by the National Testing Agency.
Case has been registered under Code of Criminal Procedure
Inspector Narsimha Swamy, who is investigating the case, said, "The exam result was out yesterday and he did not speak about it to his parents. We are suspecting he shot himself, as he failed to clear the entrance exam. No suicide note was found there." A case under Section 174 Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been registered by the Neredmet police.
Sahil shot himself at 1 AM after his parent slept
Sahil, who was preparing for the exam for a year, was apparently upset after checking his result. While his parents were asleep in the next room, he used his father's gun to shoot himself at around 1 AM that night. The gunshot sound woke his parents and they found their youngest of the three sons dead. Sahil's father, Meheruddin, works as a security guard.
Mother noticed unusual behavior but didn't give much thought
According to Sahil's mother, Sarojbala, the night he took his life, he asked his 5-year-old cousin (who stays with their family) to sleep in his parent's room. Moreover, he told his family that he wished to go to the terrace for a stroll. "This was unusual but at the time I didn't think much of it," added Sarojbala.
Sarojbala's cries woke up the neighbors, who called the ambulance
Later, Sarojbala's loud cries for help woke the neighbors, who tried calling an ambulance. They informed that while the police came within 10 minutes, the ambulance came an hour late. Their neighbor Nandagopal said, "The boy was an introvert. From my home, I could see him most days on the terrace, preparing for the exams. He was always studying."
Sahil wished to become a software engineer, was taking coaching
Meanwhile, the gun and Meheruddin's gun licence have been confiscated by the Rachakonda police. As per reports, Sahil, who was aspiring to become a software engineer, completed his Class XII in 2018. However, he took a year to re-appear for the board examinations in 2019 to improve his score, and was also taking private coaching to clear the exam.
We never put pressure on him, says Meheruddin
Meheruddin, who claimed that Sahil didn't inform about the results, said, "We never put pressure on him, always told him that if this does not work out, he can try something else." He added, "He was a quiet boy, didn't have any friends. He would go to the institute, come back and study. That was his only routine for the past year."
