After 'killer' wolves, jackals terrorize UP villages; 12 people attacked
At least 12 individuals, including five children, have been injured following an attack by a pack of jackals in two villages in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district. According to India Today, the animals first targeted children playing outside their homes in Suswar and Pansoli villages. When adults rushed to protect the children, the animals also attacked them.
Victims hospitalized, locals retaliate against jackal attack
Following the attack, all 12 victims were rushed to Jahanabad's Community Health Centre (CHC) for immediate medical attention. Some of them were later transferred to Pilibhit district hospital for anti-rabies shots. In retaliation to the jackal attack, locals killed one of the animals which had been cornered in Pansoli village. Upon receiving an alert about the jackal attacks, a team from the local administration and forest department arrived at the scene to investigate.
Investigation launched into unusual jackal attack
Pilibhit's District Forest Officer (DFO) Manish Singh clarified that initial reports suggested wolves were responsible but it was later confirmed that jackals were behind the attacks. Wolves have been terrorizing the neighboring Bahraich district, killing at least 10 people, including several children. "These jackals have become aggressive because the rains have flooded their hiding places, forcing them out. Also, it is their mating period, during which they tend to be more aggressive," Singh explained.
