Bhopal: Stalker holds model hostage for 12 hours for fame
Friday, the Fortune City area of Bhopal, MP, saw a tense 12 hours: a man had barged into a model's home and was holding her hostage at gunpoint, demanding marriage. He said she loved him too, adding he was doing it as her parents were against them. But new reports claim there was more; Singh apparently wanted fame and was thrilled with the attention.
Singh had met her on a modelling assignment
Police officials found out about the situation Friday morning. Revealing details, they said Singh, an Aligarh native, had met the woman, an MTech degree holder, on one of her modeling assignments in Mumbai. Talking to media and policemen through video calls, he said he wanted to marry her, and would kill himself, as well as her, if anyone stopped him.
During ordeal, he kept sending videos to journalists
Throughout the ordeal, Singh kept forwarding videos to journalists, police said, demanding they be uploaded on social media. In one that went viral, she is seen lying on a bed with blood on the floor. He blamed police for the situation. "Cops have surrounded us and they attacked us with knives." "If there was no crowd outside the door, I'd have come out earlier."
'Police harassed me, tortured me, so I am doing this'
Singh also alleged harassment by police. "When I reached Bhopal, a police complaint was filed against me. They harassed me, tortured me which is why I took this step," he said.
He let her go after she agreed to marry him
The nightmare came to an end after police convinced Singh that they would help him marry her, and the woman signed an affidavit stating the same. Later, she backed the claims of his desire for fame, saying he'd often go to the window and gloat in the crowds he had drawn. "I will become famous! Nobody knew me yesterday, but the entire country knows my name now," he told her.
Woman has now demanded death penalty for the stalker
The woman has now sought capital punishment for Singh, who has been arrested. "He has threatened to kill me when he comes out of jail. That's why I want him to get the death penalty," she said. Police said Singh's family has refused him any help.
