UP shocker: 100-year-old bedridden woman dies after being raped
In a horrific incident, a 100-year-old bedridden woman in Meerut district died after she was raped and beaten up in her house late on Sunday night. A 25-year-old local man allegedly barged into her house in an inebriated state and raped her to death. The woman was so weak that she couldn't even raise an alarm. She succumbed to her injuries on Monday.
The accused also beat her up, tore off her clothes
The accused, identified as Ankit Punia, also beat the old woman and tore off her clothes when she tried to resist his attempts. A resident of Meerut's Raghunathpur village, she lived with her brother who was hard of hearing. Though Ankit was allegedly in the house for an hour, the woman's brother - who was sleeping outside - couldn't hear her cries of help.
Locals demand death sentence for the accused
Despite being caught in the act by the villagers, Ankit claims he is innocent. He has been arrested for housebreak, rape and murder. He has also been charged under relevant sections of the SC/ST Act since the victim was a Dalit. The locals, however, are demanding death sentence for him. The woman was rushed to a hospital where she was declared dead upon examination.
