Real reason for Chahal and Dhanashree's divorce shocks fans
What's the story
Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and celebrity choreographer Dhanashree Verma officially divorced on March 20.
While the couple has remained tight-lipped about the reason behind their split, a report by senior entertainment journalist Vickey Lalwani has now suggested that it was the "Mumbai-Haryana jhagda" that was one of the key reasons for their separation.
Living arrangements
Chahal and Verma's living arrangements led to disagreements
After getting married in December 2020, Chahal and Verma started living at the cricketer's family home in Haryana. However, a few days later, Verma wanted to move to Mumbai.
Reportedly, this didn't sit well with Chahal.
Lalwani wrote in a post, "Yuzi was clear that he wouldn't uproot himself from his parents' home and surroundings."
Alimony dispute
Controversy over alimony amount followed divorce
Before the divorce, reports of discord between the couple had been circulating for a long time.
Verma even faced backlash for getting ₹4.75 crore as alimony from the star cricketer.
In the midst of this, RJ Mahvash, rumored to be dating Chahal, posted a cryptic post apparently aimed at Verma's alimony.
There were also reports that Verma was demanding ₹60 crore as alimony from Chahal. However, Verma's family rubbished such claims as "baseless."
Tweet resurfacing
'MARRIAGE is fancy word for adopting an over-grown male child...'
Meanwhile, Chahal's old tweet on marriage has gone viral amid the divorce proceedings.
The cricketer had posted in 2013, "MARRIAGE is just a fancy word for adopting an over-grown male child who can't be handled by his parents anymore."
The tweet has been shared and reshared extensively on social media platforms after the news of his divorce from Verma was announced.
Relationship timeline
Chahal and Verma's journey from meeting to divorce
Chahal and Verma first connected on an online dance class where Verma was the teacher and Chahal her student.
From their wedding pictures and videos going viral, to collaborating on various projects after marriage, they did it all.
However, despite the picture-perfect beginning, their relationship soured, leading to this separation.
Confirming the divorce, Chahal's advocate Nitin Kumar Gupta said, "The court has granted the decree of divorce, and both parties are no longer husband and wife."
