
YRF 'wiped out 3yrs of my life,' says Devashish Makhija

Acclaimed director Devashish Makhija, the man behind Joram and Bhonsle, recently opened up about his experience with Yash Raj Films (YRF).
Speaking to Screen, he revealed he had been working on an animated film for YRF, which was suddenly shelved three years into production.
"I was making an animation film for Yash Raj Films and Disney... They pulled the plug on my film. That was three years into production... I lost three years there," he said.

'I walked away from a three-film deal with them'
After assisting on Black Friday and Bunty Aur Babli, Makhija began his directorial journey with YRF.
"When the first animation film they made, Roadside Romeo, tanked, they pulled the plug on my film," he revealed, adding, "But because that film got shelved, I walked away from a three-film deal I had with them."
"Nobody told me a film three years in production can get shelved. They just wiped out three years of my life," he added.

Makhija's directorial debut and future projects
After his YRF experience, Makhija (45) made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed Oriya film Oonga in 2013.
He then helmed the horror film Ajji (2017) and has since directed Bhonsle and Joram, both of which starred Manoj Bajpayee. Despite critical acclaim and awards, the films failed to perform at the box office.
Makhija's next directorial venture is Gandhari, featuring Taapsee Pannu.
