Amazon Prime Video announces 'Young Sherlock Holmes' series adaptation
Amazon Prime Video has commissioned a new series based on Andrew 'Andy' Lane's Young Sherlock Holmes novels. The lead role will be played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After film series), with Guy Ritchie serving as the director and executive producer. This marks another collaboration between Ritchie and Tiffin following their recent work on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
Ritchie promised unique take on iconic detective
Ritchie, who has previously directed two Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr., promises an "exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they've never imagined before." The eight-episode series aims to explore the origins of the enigmatic character and how he became the genius detective beloved by many.
Production team and plot details revealed
Matthew Parkhill, known for Deep State and Rogue, will write, showrun, and executive produce the series. Other executive producers include Simon Kelton, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, and Marc Resteghini. The series will follow a 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes as he becomes involved in a murder mystery at Oxford University.
Amazon MGM Studios expressed excitement for new series
Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, expressed enthusiasm about the new series featuring one of the world's best-known literary characters. He commended the creative team led by Ritchie and Parkhill for their captivating storytelling. The project was initially packaged by Kelton and Atkinson before partnering with Motive Pictures, Gilbert, and Resteghini to bring it to Amazon MGM Studios.
