Will PM Modi appear in 'Captain America: Brave New World'
What's the story
Marvel Studios's latest offering, Captain America: Brave New World, has been creating a stir with its blend of political drama and superhero action.
The film, starring Anthony Mackie as the new Captain and Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, explores themes of global diplomacy and power dynamics.
Interestingly, a scene showing an Indian delegate among world leaders got netizens thinking that the man resembled Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Did Modi inspire a Marvel movie character?
Coincidental resemblance
'Not designed to copy any real-world figures': Onah
The character, played by a man with a short white beard clad in a white kurta and Nehru jacket led to speculation on social media about the character's inspiration.
But director Julius Onah has emphasized that any resemblance to real-life individuals is purely coincidental.
In an interview with ETimes, Onah said, "It's not designed to copy any real-world figures."
Character resemblance
'Anything that overlaps with the real world is a coincidence'
Not only this, Onah emphasized that "Anything that overlaps with the real world is a coincidence because there's a grounded nature to these stories and you're dealing with a figure named Captain America."
He stressed that the film seeks to deliver an engaging cinematic experience, not a commentary on current politics.
Although themes of politics and secret forces were present in every Captain America movie, things got properly political with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series.
Actor's perspective
Ford's stance on politics in 'Brave New World'
Ford also shared his views during the Los Angeles world premiere.
He told AFP, "I would not taint any movie with the reality of the world we're living in right now. I prefer the Marvel universe to the morning's news."
The plot follows Ross's attempts to broker an international treaty over a newly discovered precious metal on an island in the ocean.
