Farhan Akhtar visits Yerawada prison, inmates ask about Sanjay Dutt
Recently, Farhan Akhtar visited the Yerawada prison in Pune to promote his upcoming film Lucknow Central. The inmates of the prison had bigger concerns. They enquired about Sanjay Dutt. Dutt has served time in the same prison thrice. The prisoners were curious about "how he was doing, his upcoming movies, events, etc". Looks like Sanju Baba definitely struck a chord with them.
Sanjay Dutt gets jail, Yerawada his new home
In July 2007, TADA court sentenced actor Sanjay Dutt to 6 years in prison. On 2 August 2007, he was brought to Yerawada jail in Pune and after 22 days he walked out on a bail. Then again in October 2007, he was brought back to Yerawada for a second stint. He walked out on bail on 28 November 2007. In 2013, he was back again.
From an actor to a hand at cane workshop
While in prison, Sanjay Dutt was asked to choose his vocation inside the prison and he opted for cane work, making cane baskets. He was entitled to Rs 12.50 per day - the salary given to an unskilled worker in the prison.
When Sanjay Dutt turned RJ at the Yerawada prison
In 2015, Dutt who played an RJ in his movie Lage Raho Munna Bhai, turned a real life RJ at the Yerawada prison. Apart from making paper bags, Dutt wrote scripts for Radio YCP program for the Yerawada inmates. RJ Sanjay Dutt talked in Hindi, even tried Marathi and played songs that were requested by the fellow prisoners.
Sanjay Dutt opens up about his time at Yerawada jail
Speaking at the India Today Conclave, Sanjay Dutt opened up about serving a 42-month sentence at Pune's Yerawada jail. He said that he was not given any special treatment, in fact, worse. He said the worst thing about the prison was the food. Now a free man, he said the feeling was yet to sink in for a man who'd been in solitary confinement.
