'12th Fail': Why Vidhu Vinod Chopra didn't cast established 'stars'
Vikrant Massey's 12th Fail, released last year, has made waves due to its inspiring narrative and stellar performances. The movie, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, is based on Anurag Pathak's book and tells the true story of Manoj Kumar Sharma who rose from poverty to become an Indian Police Service officer. At the recent IIFA Awards 2024, Chopra revealed that Massey was his first choice for this critically acclaimed film.
Chopra's rationale for casting Massey in '12th Fail'
Chopra explained his decision to cast Massey, stating, "Yes, he was [the first choice]. I have a big problem. Because see I couldn't star a so-called Hindi film star in the film. The film would look fake." He emphasized the importance of authenticity in filmmaking and suggested that casting a mainstream Bollywood actor might have compromised this aspect of 12th Fail.
Massey's emotional journey in '12th Fail'
Massey recently shared his emotional experience during the filming process. He told ANI, "Even with Manoj Kumar Sharma, there were moments when Vinod sir would call a cut and I would continue weeping even after the cut was called because I just could not control myself." The film also stars Medha Shankr, Anant V Joshi, and Priyanshu Chatterjee.
