Why Saif refuses to keep gun at home post-stabbing incident
What's the story
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who is recovering from a stabbing incident at his Bandra residence on January 16, has said he won't keep a gun at home for protection.
The attack was carried out by an intruder who entered through his youngest son Jeh's room.
Despite the traumatic event, Khan recently told Delhi Times, "I used to have a gun also. Luckily, I don't have that. I don't know what would have happened."
Actor's stance
'I didn't believe in that anymore...'
Explaining his decision, Khan (54) said, "I didn't believe in that anymore. I thought some kid would get hold of it, and then there'll be other problems."
"All the people who have guns - Rajwaras and the Rajasthanis - have been messaging me that they can't believe that guy got away with it. My father used to sleep with a shotgun by his bed."
"But sometimes, I believe accidents happen because there was a gun."
Incident details
Khan's perspective on the incident and future precautions
Khan received six stab wounds, two of which were near his spine.
The actor was jolted awake by loud noises from Jeh's room and discovered an intruder arguing with their house help.
Despite the injuries, he doesn't intend to keep any weapons.
He reasoned, "Nothing will change...because I don't feel I'm under threat. It was not a premeditated attack. I think it was a burglary attempt gone wrong. That poor guy, his life is more screwed than mine."
Retrospection
'Do you know who I am?'
Reflecting on the incident, Khan revealed what he would have done differently.
He said, "I would put on the light and firstly tell him, 'Do you know who I am?' And I think he would say, 'Oh sh_t! I'm in the wrong house.' And I'd say 'Right, put the knife down and let's talk about this.' But it was a mixture of anger, outrage and a kind of defense."
"It was just too quick."
Recovery journey
Khan's recovery and return to public life
After the attack, Khan was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital and was operated upon for wounds on his neck and near his spine. He was discharged from the hospital on January 21.
The Mumbai police are probing the matter and they took a Bangladeshi named Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad into custody.
Despite his injuries, Khan recently made his first public appearance since the attack as he promoted his upcoming Netflix film - Jewel Thief.
