The big bad world of Hindi film industry may not be kind to outsiders but is quick to recognize special talents and not let them go. Yash Raj Films' head-honcho Aditya Chopra and director Maneesh Sharma saw something extraordinary in 25-year-old Ranveer Singh, who turns 33 today, and we couldn't be more thankful. Here's a look at his journey.
The very first male actor to be launched by YRF
At a time when Bollywood did not look beyond star-kids, Ranveer came as a breath of fresh air. It was in 2010 that his debut film 'Band Baaja Baaraat' hit the theatres, marking the beginning of a new era. However, many industry insiders including Karan Johar had written him off on the basis of his looks, but he eventually made them eat their words.
With 'Lootera', 'Ram-Leela', he showed his range as an actor
Ranveer made some brave choices at the start of his filmy career, taking his critics by a pleasant surprise. In 2013 came Vikramaditya Motwane's 'Lootera' that remains one of Ranveer's most appreciated work till date. Later that year, he collaborated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for 'Ram-Leela' and the audience knew that this actor-director duo was certainly special.
The calm before the storm
After the resounding success of 'Ram-Leela', Ranveer hit a rough patch. His next two releases, Ali Abbas Zafar's 'Gunday' and Shaad Ali's 'Kill Dil' could not garner expected response. Zoya Akhtar's 'Dil Dhadakne Do' did do some damage control but it was with Bhansali's 'Bajirao Mastani' that he mesmerized the audience with and made sure nobody ever doubted his acting skills.
He set new benchmarks with 'Padmaavat'
Bhansali, somehow, always manages to bring the best out of Ranveer. Some would argue his Khilji act in 'Padmaavat' goes down as one of the best performances in the history of Indian cinema. And his current line-up of films is as promising as it gets.
