Why 'All We Imagine...' has received only limited Kerala release
Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light, which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, has received a limited release in India. On Saturday, the film made its way to theaters in Kerala with the title Prabhayay Ninachathellam. This restricted release strategy is aimed to meet the eligibility criteria set by the Film Federation of India for the 97th Academy Awards in the Best International Film category.
The film can now be shortlisted for Oscars by India!
As per FFI, "Films which are unreleased as of September 10 (last date of entry) who wish to apply for the Oscar Entry will have to submit an undertaking and confirmation from the production & distribution company that the said films will be released for a minimum of 7 days in theaters before the deadline of September 30, 2024." It's Kapadia's first feature-length directorial, and post the Kerala release, will subsequently expand to other Indian states.
Spirit Media acquires exclusive distribution rights
The exclusive rights to distribute the acclaimed film in India have been secured by Spirit Media, a production house founded by Telugu actor Rana Daggubati. The film is an official Indo-French co-production between Chalk and Cheese Films from India and Petit Chaos from France. However, France has already chosen Jacques Audiard's Spanish-language musical crime comedy Emilia Perez as its official entry for the Oscars.
