Taylor Swift and Arijit Singh compete for Spotify's top spot
Globally popular American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and Indian vocalist Arijit Singh are battling it out for the title of the most-followed artist on Spotify. As per recent data from ChartMasters, Singh currently holds the top spot with 117.32M followers, while Swift is a close second with 117.3M followers (till the time of writing). Over the years, Singh has established himself as the most sought-after Bollywood singer, which has catapulted his popularity greatly.
Swift and Singh's previous Spotify rivalry
This isn't the first time Swift and Singh have locked horns for a top spot on Spotify. In August 2023, Singh briefly overtook Swift to secure third place on the platform's most-followed artists list. However, Swift quickly reclaimed her position. Despite this, Singh made history earlier in January as the first Indian artist to amass over 100M followers on Spotify.
Other artists in Spotify's top-followed list
British singer Ed Sheeran currently holds the third spot on Spotify's most-followed list with 115M followers. Other notable artists include Ariana Grande (98M followers), Billie Eilish (96M), and Drake (90M). Grammy-Academy Award-winning singer-producer AR Rahman is the only other Indian artist in the top 20, ranking 20th with 49M followers, while Neha Kakkar is in 22nd place with 47M.
Take a look at recent works of Swift and Singh
Swift's recent surge in followers could be linked to the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, in April 2024. The music video for Fortnight, a track from this album, has garnered her 10 nominations at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. On the other hand, Singh's latest work includes singing Pritam's compositions Satyanaas and Tu Hai Champion for the film Chandu Champion.
