#ComicBytes: Five worst Batman suits of all time
Batman is one of the most popular and beloved comic characters. Since the masked vigilante has been around for 80 years, fans have seen several costume changes, trying to add flair to the caped crusader. While Batman has plenty of cool Batsuits, it would be remiss to acknowledge that his fashion sense has not always been good. Here are the five worst Batman suits.
The flaming sword of Azrael
Azrael is an assassin, who appears in the Batman comics. His first appearance was in 1992 as Jean-Paul Valley. Eventually, he went on put on Batman's cape after the Dark Knight broke his back in a fight with Bane. Azrael's over the top costume, with generous doses of blue and gold, along with claws on his gloves, ruined the fear the original costume inspired.
The God of Marvel meets the Bat of DC
2001 saw DC inviting Stan Lee to re-imagine Batman, the way he would have written it. Despite Lee's genius, his results were mediocre. His created character, Wayne Williams, was a cross between Luke Cage and Bruce Wayne. The uninspiring story aside, Lee botched up the costume, giving the Batman a black unitard with a cape and a mask modeled on an actual bat!
An alien batman with an alien Batsuit
In a weird take on Batman's story, the comic showed an alien Batman with superpowers. Even if we leave the science-fiction blunder, it added several colors to show the alien origins of the alternate caped crusader. It kept the original black cowl but gave Batman a red torso, yellow limbs, and a purple cape. The result was a jarring appearance that hurt fans' eyes.
He's got stripes, stripes around his shoulders
Over the years, Batman's costumes have ranged from annoying to downright ridiculous. With great shame, I introduce Zebra Batman. While facing a magnetism controlling villain with a striped zebra-like appearance, Batman was hit with the same machine. This made him look like a striped zebra as well. The situation was finally reversed, but the costume has gone down as one of the worst ones.
No pot of gold at the end of this rainbow
If the striped Zebra Batman was bad, then Rainbow Batman is the absolute worst. The 1957 issue went against the core Batsuit's idea- something dark and stealthy. This single issue saw Batman dress up in all seven gaudy colors of the rainbow, which was painful enough. However, fans were struck a final blow when the caped crusader's fashion blunder culminated in a rainbow-colored Batsuit.
