OTT: Where to watch India's Oscars 2025 entry 'Laapataa Ladies'
Kiran Rao's acclaimed directorial, Laapataa Ladies has been announced as India's entry for the 2025 Oscars by the Film Federation of India's selection committee. The fiercely feminist comedy-drama, which was released in March this year, stars Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, Ravi Kishan, and Sparsh Shrivastava. Synopsis and cast of 'Laapataa Ladies'
Laapataa Ladies follows the story of two newly-wed brides who accidentally get separated from their families and in-laws during a train journey. The supporting cast includes Bhaskar Jha, Durgesh Kumar, Geeta Aggarwal, Pankaj Sharma, Rachna Gupta, Abeer Jain, Kirti Jain, Daood Hussain, Pranjal Pateriya, Samarth Mohar, and Satendra Soni. Written by Biplab Goswami, it was backed by Aamir Khan, Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande.
'Laapataa Ladies' left behind these films
The film defeated several other popular movies to be chosen for this incredible feat. These include Cannes winner All We Imagine as Light, Malayalam National Award winner Aattam, and Ranbir Kapoor's blockbuster Animal. Tamil film Maharaja, Telugu movies Kalki 2898 AD and Hanu-Man, as well as the Hindi titles Swatantraya Veer Savarkar and Article 370. It is Rao's second feature directorial after Dhobi Ghat.
