Paris Paralympics 2024: When, where to watch Indian athletes live
The Paris Paralympics 2024 is set to begin on Wednesday, with India fielding its largest-ever contingent of 84 athletes. The Indian team, which will compete across 12 sports, aims to surpass the record-breaking 19-medal tally from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. The Games will run through September 9.
India's Paralympic journey begins on August 29
The Paris 2024 Paralympics will commence on August 28 and continue until September 9. While the events are scheduled to start as early as 1:30pm IST, India's participation will begin from Thursday, August 29. India's largest-ever Paralympic contingent
India's Paralympic team comprises 84 members, the largest in the nation's history. The contingent includes a 38-member para-athletics team, which accounts for nearly half of the total participants. This team, led by Tokyo 2020 para-javelin champion Sumit Antil, will compete in 12 medal events. Other significant representations include para-badminton and para-shooting, with 13 and 10 athletes respectively.
India debuts in para-cycling, para-judo, and para-rowing
The Paris 2024 Paralympics also marks India's debut in para-cycling, para-judo, and para-rowing. This expansion into new sports categories signifies the country's growing presence in the international Paralympic arena. The Indian team is hopeful of surpassing its previous record-breaking haul of 19 medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, which included five golds, eight silvers, and six bronzes.
