Malaika once revealed how her parents' divorce changed her life
In a tragic turn of events, Malaika Arora's stepfather, Anil Mehta, died by suspected suicide on Wednesday morning, according to Mumbai Police. As per PTI, Mehta allegedly died after jumping from the sixth floor of a building in Mumbai's Bandra area. Before Mehta, Arora's mother Joyce Polycarp was married to Anil Arora, and they separated at a very early age. Malaika previously spoke about the hardships she faced growing up because of her parents' divorce when she was just 11.
Malaika had opened up about her 'tumultuous' childhood
In an interview with Grazia, Malaika had opened up about her childhood and the lessons she learned from her parents' separation. She described her childhood as "tumultuous," but acknowledged that tough times taught her important lessons. "I had a wonderful childhood, but it wasn't easy...My parents' separation allowed me to observe my mother through a new and unique lens," she said, adding that she learned the value of being fiercely independent.

Further, Malaika revealed that after her parents' separation, her mother moved with her and her sister from Thane to Chembur. She explained how she remained calm during those challenging times, closely observing her surroundings and learning to adapt. "Those early lessons are the cornerstones of my life and professional journey. I am still fiercely independent; I value my freedom and live life on my terms." However, after Polycarp got together with Mehta, Arora gave him a father's place.
Meanwhile, Malaika's father's death described as an 'accident'
A source close to the family told PTI, "It's true that Malaika's father passed away this morning. He has not committed suicide, it's an accident. They all are shocked because he had no ailment or anything as such." The source added that police panchnama will make things clear. Not much is known about Mehta as both he and Polycarp largely kept out of the public eye.
