When is 'South Park' season 25 airing on Comedy Central?
The Peabody-winning animated series South Park is set to return to Comedy Central with its 25th season. Following two special COVID-19-themed episodes that constituted the 24th season, the upcoming series will hit the channel on February 2 (Wednesday). We will get six new episodes as part of it. In 2019, the 23rd season was the last full season to premiere that included 10 episodes.
Why does the story matter?
Debuting on Comedy Central in August 1997, South Park is one of the most on-point, culturally relevant American animated series that is still ongoing. Based on satire, it is set in the quiet mountain town of South Park featuring "four irreverent grade-schoolers"—Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman, Kyle Broflovski, and Kenny McCormick—in the lead. Given it targets socially relevant topics, a new season is highly exciting.
Per recent deal, 'South Park' was renewed till season 30
This season will come as part of a $900mn dollar deal that co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker had signed with ViacomCBS's MTV Entertainment Studios back in August. Now, the show has been renewed till its 30th season. Further, 14 original movies based on the South Park world were greenlit last year and makers dropped two films on the Paramount+ streaming service recently.
Season 24 had seen great viewership ratings and critical acclaim
Following the premiere on February 2, weekly episodes are to follow. "To be halfway done with South Park is a great accomplishment—we can't lie," Stone and Parker had said about the deal in a statement. The last season may have seen uncharacteristic two episodes but these raked in great ratings and also an Emmy nod. A promo for the 25th season is now out.
