'Why not?': When Hrithik Roshan shared his dream to direct
What's the story
Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has set his directorial debut with the upcoming superhero film Krrish 4.
The film will also see Roshan reprising his role as the titular superhero.
Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films will co-produce along with franchise creator Rakesh Roshan.
Earlier, in a 2024 interview with Film Companion, Roshan spoke about the possibility of him directing, revealing that he has been "thinking about it for a while now."
Here's what he had said.
Directorial dilemma
Roshan's insights into filmmaking and directing challenges
Having previously worked as an assistant director to his father, Roshan opened up about the challenges of directing.
He said, "I've seen directors who do not know anything about lensing; they don't know how a lens would make a scene look like."
"But there's something that's empowered them wherein they're confident enough to say that they will make this film."
"Something inside me still needs to get empowered."
Directorial path
Roshan's journey toward directing
Roshan admitted, "As of now, something is coming in the way of me thinking about direction; maybe it's some kind of fear or inability."
"I am hoping it [clicks into place] someday. Why not? If I love cinema that much, why not go to the extreme of it and find out what is the cinema I would want to make?"
He added he wanted to see how "boring" or "engaging" his film would be.
Directorial vision
Roshan's vision for his directorial debut
Roshan expressed curiosity about the kind of cinema he would make in his directorial debut.
He likened the process to buying his first home, saying, "It's similar to having that instinct and saying, 'I like this floor.'"
"To make such decisions, one has to be in touch with their instinct. You got to go with what you have."
While Krrish 4 goes on floors next year, Roshan will next be seen in War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji.
