Here's why SRK will always remain indebted to Big B
Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan go back a long way. The two stalwarts of Indian cinema share a healthy relationship both on and off screen. Though there are numerous anecdotes that testify to their friendship, there's one particular episode that is probably the most stirring. It dates back to 2005 when Big B refused a cheque of Rs. 1 crore by SRK.
SRK wanted to thank Big B for featuring in 'Paheli'
On a special request by SRK, senior Bachchan did a small part in his ambitious film 'Paheli'. Obliged by his kindness, SRK, on behalf of his production house Red Chillies Entertainment, sent him a cheque of Rs. 1 crore. "I wanted to pay Mr. Bachchan for the work he had done. I also wrote a letter to thank him," SRK had once said.
However, Big B sent the cheque back right away
Big B politely turned down the hefty cheque. "He said he'd never take money for working with me. You see it's not about the money but about the way he went about doing my film. He turned up for work happily at 6 o'clock every morning. He's a really kind gentleman and the greatest star I've ever been in touch with," said SRK.
'Paheli' was India's official entry to the Oscars in 2005
Directed by Amol Palekar and starring Rani Mukerji alongside SRK, 'Paheli' toppled films such as 'Veer Zaara', 'Swades', 'Page 3', 'Black', 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi', 'Iqbal', 'Mangal Pandey' in the race to the Oscars.
