Azula actor shares tidbits about 'Avatar: The Last Airbender 2'
Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is currently in the development stages for its second and third seasons. Elizabeth Yu, the actor portraying Azula, recently shared insights about her character's expanded role in the upcoming episodes. The first season of this new adaptation remained faithful to the original animated series' narrative while providing a deeper exploration of characters like Azula and Fire Lord Ozai.
Season 2 'really important moment for Azula'
Speaking to The Direct during Paleyfest 2024, Yu revealed she was cognizant of Azula's increased significance in the later seasons of the original series. "I mean, I'm excited. In the original series as well, Azula is not on the first season. So, a lot of her introduction is in the second season. It's a really important moment for her." She shared her anticipation to interact with Aang and the main group for the first time, too.
Yu excited to explore sibling rivalry in upcoming seasons
Yu also expressed excitement about delving deeper into the sibling rivalry between Azula and Zuko, a crucial aspect of the animated original. She is eager to see what exchanges will be like with Team Avatar, stating, "I'm excited to elaborate on that." "I didn't get any scenes with any of the kids in the first season," Yu revealed as her screen time in Season 1 was primarily spent with characters from the Fire Nation.
Yu eager to recreate iconic scenes from original series
When asked about what she was most excited to portray as Azula in Season 2, Yu showed enthusiasm for recreating any scene from the animated original. "I'm excited to do any scenes from the original series, like any of our iconic lines," Yu explained. While no dates have been confirmed for the upcoming season, fans can watch all eight episodes of the first season on Netflix.
