'Knock Down the House' is an award-winning documentary
Knock Down the House is an American documentary that follows four ordinary, yet exceptional women - Bronx-born Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; Amy Vilela; registered nurse and pastor, Cori Bush; and Paula Jean Swearengin, a coal miner's daughter - as they step into politics to fix the wrongs in their society. This Award-winning documentary by Rachel Lears will be released on Netflix on May 1.
'Dead to Me': A dark comedy about a grieving widow
Created by Liz Feldman, Dead to Me is a dark comedy about a sardonic Jen, who has been recently widowed and is now desperate to solve her husband's hit-and-run case. During her journey, she strikes an unlikely friendship with an optimistic, free spirit from her support group, Judy, who's been keeping a secret. The series will release on Netflix on May 3.
'The Society': A modern take on 'Lord of the Flies'
A mystery teen drama, The Society is a "modern take on Lord of the Flies." The story follows a group of teenagers in a wealthy New England town whose parents have mysteriously disappeared without a trace. Their only hope to understand what happened and set things right is by establishing order and forming alliances. The series will release on May 10.
Sci-fi 'See You Yesterday' has a backdrop of racial hate-crime
See You Yesterday is a sci-fi drama about two high school best friends, CJ and Sebastian, who are obsessed with time travel. However, when CJ's brother is killed by cops in a targeted crime, the two science prodigies perfect the time machine to travel back in time to save him. Directed by Stefan Bristol, the film launches on May 17.
Renee Zellweger plays an ominous benefactor in 'What/If'
There's not much that we know about Netflix's upcoming neo-noir anthology thriller series What/If, but the teaser, which came out on Tuesday, somehow has us intrigued. The official synopsis for What/If, which releases on May 24, reads: "A pair of cash-strapped newlyweds accept a lucrative but morally dubious offer from a mysterious female benefactor." The series stars Academy Award-winner Renee Zellweger.
