What pushed JLo to end things with Ben Affleck
After months of speculations, Hollywood singer and actor Jennifer Lopez (55) has finally filed for divorce from her husband, fellow actor Ben Affleck (52). The couple had been in marital bliss for over two years. The burning question on everyone's mind: Why did JLo decide to end things with Affleck? According to PEOPLE, sources close to the situation say Lopez was "done waiting" and is now ready to "move on."
Lopez 'tried really hard to make things work'
A source told the publication that Lopez "tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken." The source added, "The kids are a top priority, as they always have been." For those unaware, Lopez has 16-year-old twins Emme and Max while Affleck is the father of Violet (18), Seraphina (15), and 12-year-old Samuel from his previous marriage to actor Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018.
Lopez filed for divorce at LA County Superior Court
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck at the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday (local time). The date of separation was listed as April 26, 2024, just days before rumors of marital strife began circulating. The couple had been married since July 17, 2022, when they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas. A second ceremony was held on August 20, 2022, in Georgia.
Divorce documents do not reflect prenuptial agreement
The divorce documents reportedly do not include a prenuptial agreement. Lopez has waived spousal support and asked that no spousal support be awarded to Affleck. The couple's $60M mansion will need to be sold as part of the settlement. Sources said that communication between the two had been deteriorating and settlement negotiations had reached a deadlock. Meanwhile, the couple has already listed their homes for sale. Affleck also purchased a bachelor pad in Los Angeles.
Affleck 'hasn't given any signs of wanting to continue marriage'
An insider close to Lopez said, she's "very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn't given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage." Lopez and Affleck first met on the set of the movie Gigli in 2001. They got engaged in 2002 but postponed their September 2003 wedding and eventually broke up in January 2004. Both moved on to other marriages—Lopez to singer Marc Anthony in 2004 and Affleck to Garner. However, they got back together in 2021.
