Kamal Sadanah recalls day his father shot his mother, sister
Actor Kamal Sadanah, known for his roles in films such as Bekhudi, Pippa, Baali Umar Ko Salaam, and Angaara, has starred in a real-life tale more unexpected and frightening than movies. Recently, while speaking with Siddharth Kannan, Sadanah shared the horrifying incident involving his father, Brij Sadanah back in 1990. The tragic event resulted in the death of his sister, Namrata, and his mother, Sayeeda Khan.
Know what happened on that fateful day
The tragic incident occurred on Sadanah's 20th birthday, October 21, 1990. Producer-director Brij suddenly opened fire on his family, fatally wounding his wife and daughter before killing himself. Sadanah dismissed speculation about financial difficulties forcing Brij to take the step. A cause was never found out.
Sadanah was also shot but survived the incident
During the conversation, Sadanah recounted the traumatic experience of witnessing his family's demise. He himself was injured in the incident, with a bullet passing through his neck. "It is traumatic. To witness your family's demise before your eyes is...I was also shot. I had a bullet pass through my neck," he confessed to Kannan.
Forgetting own pain, Sadanah took his mother, sister to hospital
In the aftermath of the incident, Sadanah was responsible for transporting his injured mother and sister to the hospital. Despite being wounded himself, he was unaware of his own injury until a doctor noticed blood on his shirt. "I had to transport my mother and my sister to the hospital while they were bleeding. Aur us waqt mujhe pta nahi tha ki mujhe bhi goli lagi thi [At that time, I did not know that I was also shot]."
Sadanah's perspective on celebrating his birthday
When asked how he observes his birthday after such a traumatic event, Sadanah admitted that he initially did not celebrate. "Shuru-shuru mein nahi karta tha [In the beginning, I did not celebrate]. In fact, I still don't do it. But, every year, my friends are just lined up," he shared. "Last year or year before last, I actually said, 'I'm going to have a small party.' And both my children were there. It was nice."
