Instead of Milkha Singh, Bengal textbook mentions Farhan Akhtar
In an astonishing incident which puts the spotlight on the poor education system, a West Bengal textbook put Farhan Akhtar's photo while portraying Milkha Singh, the legendary sprinter. Farhan had played Milkha Singh's role in his biopic 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', which released in 2013. The mistake left Twitter users in shock and Farhan asked authorities to rectify it.
Twitter user says these mistakes are common in books
The glaring error was brought to notice by Twitter user @Lyfeghosh. He wrote that these mistakes were unfortunately common in Bengal, and he wasn't shocked. Soon, Farhan posted, "To the Minister of School Education, West Bengal. There is a glaring error with the image used in one of the school textbooks to depict Milkha Singh-ji." He asked for the publisher to recall the book.
Ranveer Singh as Khilji next, asks one Twitter user
Twitter users were obviously shocked at the carelessness that went unchecked. @Neergopal tweeted: Next Time Alauddin Khilji as Ranveer and Akbar as Hritik maybe! And @sanketporbwal tweeted: This is comedy. Dark comedy. Satirical dark comedy. At first, I laughed so hard. Then I gave it some serious thought. And then I laughed harder. Unsurprisingly, the Mamata Banerjee government was criticized.
Derek O'Brien thanks Farhan for giving feedback
Farhan did a great job, but he isn't Milkha Singh
'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, was one of the finest biopics Bollywood produced. The movie did a fair job in highlighting the turbulent life of Milkha Singh, and how he defied all odds. Farhan too did a brilliant job in his portrayal and made the movie believable. But he isn't Milkha Singh, and this basic knowledge shouldn't have been missed.
