Overflowing sewage halts Bryan Adams's concert in Perth
What's the story
A massive blockage of waste in central Perth, Australia resulted in the cancelation of a Bryan Adams concert.
The Canadian singer was set to perform at RAC Arena on Sunday night, however, concerns that a "large blockage of fat, grease, and rags" could cause sewage backup in the venue's toilets led authorities to intervene.
The issue was affecting all of Wellington Street and was unsafe for patrons to enter RAC Arena.
Announcement details
Concert cancelation announced by Frontier Touring
The concert organizer, Frontier Touring, announced the cancelation on Monday.
The statement read: "Last night's concert could not proceed due to an external Perth Water Corporation issue, which was unable to be fixed in time."
It added that the situation was "bitterly disappointing" and thanked fans for their understanding.
All attendees will receive an automatic full refund.
Fan frustration
Fans were left waiting for hours without updates
Fans had waited for hours outside the venue, with social media posts showing large crowds and expressing frustration over the lack of updates.
The opening act, James Arthur, was set to perform at 7:45pm (local time) followed by Adams at 9:00pm.
However, a text message sent around 7:15pm announced a delay and another message at 7:35pm stated that doors would remain closed due to an external Water Corporation issue, reported The Guardian.
Official explanation
Water Corporation explained the situation on Facebook
The Water Corporation gave a late-night update on Facebook explaining the cancelation and advising people to avoid contact with "pooled water" in Wellington Street, which runs alongside the venue, as it may be sewage.
The post read: "Acting on public health advice from Department of Health, the Bryan Adams concert at RAC Arena this evening was canceled due to the risk of sewage backing up within the venue toilets."
