5 films to watch on Amazon Prime Video this weekend
Amazon Prime Video has started streaming several promising films and series in March. Films like Jalsa, A Simple Favor, No Time to Die, and FIR, among others, hit the platform this month. As this week is nearing an end, why not catch some recently added films on Prime Video to enjoy the weekend? Here, we list the top five films you can watch.
'Achcham Madam Naanam Payirppu'
Directed by debutant Raja Ramamurthy, Achcham Madam Naanam Payirppu stars Akshara Haasan, Usha Uthup, and Malgudi Subha, among others. The film has been screened at Atlanta Indian Film Festival 2021, Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival, and Chicago South Asian Film Festival, where it was appreciated. The promotional videos/stills indicated the film will touch upon topics like taboo attached to sanitary napkins, masturbation, etc.
'Dune'
Before the 94th Academy Awards ceremony is broadcasted on March 28, watch Dune—one of this year's Best Picture nominees. The sci-fi film is now streaming on Prime Video in English, Hindi, Tamil Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Directed by Denis Villeneuve and backed by Legendary Pictures-Warner Bros, Dune has a starry cast comprising Timothée Chalamet, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin, among others.
'Pawankhind'
The Marathi blockbuster, Pawankhind, directed by Digpal Lanjekar is based on Baji Prabhu Deshpande, a Marathi warrior. The film stars The Kashmir Files actors Chinmay Mandlekar and Mrinal Kulkarni apart from Ajay Purkar, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Ankit Mohan, Prajakta Mali, and Kshitee Jog. Produced by Ajay Arekar, Aniruddha Arekar, and Bhausaheb Arekar under Almonds Creations, it was distributed by AA Films, owned by Anil Thadani.
'Aaraattu'
Though it received negative reviews, you can watch Aaraattu for Mohanlal. The veteran actor owns the show as Neyyattinkara Gopan or Colonel in this B Unnikrishnan-directorial. Alongside Mohanlal, Aaraattu stars Shraddha Srinath as the leading lady; Ramachandra Raju, Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Prabhakar, and Vijayaraghavan complete the cast. Before this, Mohanlal had two releases recently: Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (theatrical release) and Bro Daddy (direct-to-OTT release).
'Deep Water'
Starring rumored former lovebirds, Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, Deep Water is an erotic psychological thriller film. Directed by Adrian Lyne (Flashdance, 9½ Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Jacob's Ladder, and Indecent Proposal), the film's cast also has Tracy Letts, Lil Rel Howery, Dash Mihok, Finn Wittrock, Kristen Connolly, and Jacob Elordi, among others. It has, however, received mixed to negative reviews from critics.
