Suriya, Jyotika, Rashmika donate money to Wayanad landslide victims
Prominent film stars Suriya, Jyotika, Karthi, and Rashmika Mandanna have made substantial donations to the Kerala Chief Minister's distress relief fund. The funds are intended to assist victims of the devastating landslides in Wayanad. Triggered by heavy rains on July 30, these landslides have reportedly claimed over 250 lives with more than 200 people still unaccounted for. The rescue operations are underway.
Individual contributions of film stars to relief fund
Suriya, Jyotika, and Karthi collectively donated ₹50 lakh to the relief fund. Mandanna, known for her role in Animal, contributed ₹10 lakh. She shared her sentiments on Instagram Stories stating, "I saw this and it broke my heart.. I am so so sorry. This is terrible! Prayers to the families (sic)," accompanied by a folded-hands emoji. 'Chiyaan' Vikram also extended his support with a donation of ₹20 lakh to the Chief Minister's distress relief fund.
Malayalam actors appeal for public help, PM assured assistance
Other Malayalam actors including Mohanlal, Mammootty, Manju Warrier, Asif Ali, Tovino Thomas, Nikhila Vimal, Basil Joseph, and Malavika Mohanan have publicly appealed for help. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of all possible assistance from the Centre. In a post on X, he expressed his distress saying, "Distressed by the landslides in parts of Wayanad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured."
PM Modi announces ex gratia, mobilizes BJP workers
Prime Minister Modi has announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured in the Wayanad landslides. He also spoke to Union ministers from Kerala, Suresh Gopi, and George Kurien, about the situation. Additionally, he instructed BJP president JP Nadda to mobilize party workers in the region to assist with ongoing relief work.
