Karan Johar announces 'Dhadak 2' with Siddhant Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri
Taking everyone by surprise, filmmaker Karan Johar revealed his latest project, Dhadak 2, on Monday. Produced under Johar's production banner, Dharma Productions, the upcoming film will feature Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles, with direction by Shazia Iqbal. It serves as a standalone sequel to the 2016 hit Dhadak, directed by Shashank Khaitan, which marked the Bollywood debuts of Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter.
Why does this story matter?
In 2023, amid widespread speculation about the sequel of Dhadak, the filmmaker decisively debunked the rumors. Taking to his Instagram, Johar set the record straight, and clarified, "To put this on the record and for all concerned, we (Dharma Productions) are NOT making a film with the title DHADAK 2 as is being reported in various articles...(sic)." However, it seems, the project was always in the cards, but Johar attempted to keep it under wraps.
'Dhadak 2 to have a similar plotline as its predecessor?
In a one-minute clip, the protagonist Neelesh (Chaturvedi) is heard telling Vidisha (Dimri) that "he has no place" in the dream she envisions. The plotline hints at an intense love story, with the two battling societal norms to be together, reminiscent of Khaitan's film, which portrayed lovers defying all odds for their love. The caption accompanying the clip reads, "कैसे मिलेंगे - आग और पानी? (How will fire and water meet?)"
