'Mortal Kombat 2,' 'Companion': Warner Bros. reveals 2025-2026 film slate
Warner Bros. recently announced its film release slate for 2025 and 2026, featuring several eagerly awaited movies. Among these, Mortal Kombat 2, a New Line Cinema production, is set to premiere on October 24, 2025 in IMAX theaters. This sequel to the original Mortal Kombat film of 2021 is written by Jeremy Slater and directed by Simon McQuoid. Here are the details about other films in the pipeline.
'Mortal Kombat 2' director hinted at inclusion of characters
Mortal Kombat 2 features a star-studded cast of Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, and others. In a previous interview with Variety in 2021, McQuoid hinted at potential character additions for the sequel. He stated that Johnny Cage wasn't included in the original film because his personality is so large that it almost has its own gravitational field. The first Mortal Kombat film had a successful run, grossing $23.3M domestically and $84.4M worldwide.
Other anticipated releases in Warner Bros. 2025-26 lineup
Also slated for a 2025 release is Drew Hancock's Companion, premiering on January 10 in IMAX theaters. The plot details of this Hancock-directed film remain undisclosed, but it features actors Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend. Moving into 2026, Zach Cregger's Weapons is scheduled for a January 16 release following the success of his previous low-budget hit Barbarian.
Warner Bros. also announced releases beyond 2026
WB has also revealed its extended-release calendar, including the Melissa McCarthy-voiced feature Margie Claus, set to hit theaters on November 5, 2027. This Warner Bros. Pictures Animation feature is written by Ben Falcon and Damon Jones. Other films announced include a New Line horror title on March 27, 2026; a family event film on December 18, 2026; and a Warner Bros. Pictures Animation/Locksmith title scheduled for March 26, 2027.
