Hindi version of Vikram's 'Thangalaan' locks release date
The critically acclaimed South Indian period drama, Thangalaan, is set to make its Hindi debut on August 30. Directed by Pa Ranjith and starring Chiyaan Vikram and Malavika Mohanan, the film has already achieved significant success in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam markets since its initial release on August 15. The decision to introduce Thangalaan to a Hindi-speaking audience was driven by high demand from exhibitors across northern territories.
'Thangalaan' explores new genre of 'Mystical realism'
Producer K. E. Gnanavel Raja described Thangalaan as an innovative exploration of a new sub-genre, "Mystical Realism." He said, "The film draws heavily from mythology, blending these profound elements with a real story to create something audiences can deeply relate to. This is an entirely new genre attempt—audiences have not experienced anything like this before." "Who better to lead this experiment than Pa Ranjith and Vikram?"
'Thangalaan' delves into historical exploitation of Kolar Gold Fields
Thangalaan is set against the historical and culturally significant backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) during the British colonial era, exploring the exploitation and looting of these affluent lands. Its unique concept and period drama elements, including Mohanan's portrayal of a tribal leader with otherworldly powers, have resonated strongly with audiences. This sets it apart from conventional period dramas.
'Thangalaan' sequel announced following box office success
Following its box-office success, a sequel to Thangalaan has been announced. A few days ago, Vikram revealed that they plan to release a second part soon. The movie has demonstrated decent performance at the box office, amassing approximately ₹38.95 crore in net earnings within India during its first eight days and adding around ₹0.94 crore on its ninth day. It may now fare well in the Hindi market as well, though it's pitted against Stree 2.
