How Vikas Sethi bagged 'K3G' role because of John Abraham
Actor Vikas Sethi, who played the role of Robbie in Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, recently passed away. Although he was a popular face on television, his role as Robbie is iconic. But did you know, he almost didn't play the character? Actually, the role was initially offered to John Abraham. The revelation had come during an episode of Koffee With Karan's Season 1, where Abraham appeared alongside Vivek Oberoi. Here are more details on this.
Abraham turned down the role of Robbie
During the chat show, Abraham disclosed that Johar had offered him the role of Robbie in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. However, he declined the offer, saying, "Karan, don't mind, I really don't want to do it." Johar then interjected and admitted that the role was minor with only one scene and one dialogue.
'Never thought John would be a good actor'
Johar also confessed that he had doubts about Abraham's acting abilities. He said, "I knew John because I was one of the judges when John was on Gladrags. He came to me and I was like, 'Poor fellow, why does he want to become a hero? I thought he is the kind of model who would be great on the ramp but definitely not on screen."
'I kept looking for Robbie in the film'
Abraham revealed that after winning the title at the talent hunt, he sought advice from Johar about potential roles. This is when he was offered the role of Robbie. He humorously added, "In the entire film (K3G), I kept on looking for Robbie...I couldn't see Robbie."
'Well done, and I am sorry about that'
Johar apologized to Abraham on the show for underestimating his acting potential. He said, "Well done, and I am sorry about that. I really never thought you would reach this stage." Abraham later starred in Johar's productions Kaal (2005) and Dostana (2008).
Sethi, meanwhile, was part of many famous shows
Now, coming to Sethi, the 48-year-old actor was part of several popular TV shows, such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Uttaran, Kahiin To Hoga, and Kasautii Zindagi Kay. He died on Sunday at his home of a cardiac arrest. The late actor is survived by his wife Jhanvi Sethi and their twin sons. Jhanvi later told media that Sethi was not feeling well before his demise but refused to go to a hospital. May he rest in peace.
