'Thalapathy' Vijay's 'GOAT' set for September 5 release
An Eid gift like no other. On Thursday, the makers of Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) announced that the movie will be released on September 5, 2024. Along with this exciting news, a fresh poster featuring Vijay in a new avatar was also unveiled on social media. The film is directed by Venkat Prabhu and might be Vijay's penultimate project before he ventures into politics full-time.
Why does this story matter?
Prabhu's first collaboration with Vijay, the project boasts a stellar cast including Meenakshi Chaudhary, Prashanth, Laila, Prabhu Deva, Sneha, and others. Interestingly, for GOAT, Vijay recently shot in Kerala, marking his return to the state for work purposes after a 14-year-long gap! The last time Vijay filmed in Kerala was for his 2011 movie Kavalan. There have been rumors that the Vijay starrer is inspired by the 2012 movie Looper, but there has been no official clarification by the makers.
New poster reveals Vijay in a unique avatar
The newly released poster presents Vijay in an age-appropriate look, adding to the suspense of the film. The poster also features cryptic elements such as stamps and a dramatic explosion near a bridge. Vijay might be seen donning dual roles in the film; of his two roles, one will likely be a 19-year-old. The makers are also said to be using a de-aging technique to present Vijay's younger-looking character in the movie.

Fans expressed enthusiasm for 'GOAT' release
The announcement of the release date for GOAT was met with great enthusiasm and joy by Vijay's ardent fans. Many expressed their eagerness for the film in the comments section of the social media posts. One fan commented, "We are waiting," while another was delighted that the release date coincided with their birthday, writing, "Thank you for my Birthday release Thalapathy treat." GOAT features a formidable technical team with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematography by Siddhartha Nuni.
Vijay is preparing for another innings away from cinema
Upon wrapping up GOAT, Vijay reportedly plans to star in one more movie before bidding adieu to the entertainment industry. The actor has already inaugurated his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, and is preparing to contest the Tamil Nadu state legislative assembly elections scheduled for 2026. When Vijay announced his decision, he stated, "I'll complete the project...And I will embark on this journey to serve the people of Tamil Nadu."
