'Chhaava': Viineet Kumar reveals makers 'toned down' torture scenes
What's the story
Viineet Kumar Siingh, who starred in the blockbuster Bollywood movie Chhaava, recently revealed that the violence shown in the film was toned down a lot.
Speaking on an episode of The Raunac Podcast, he revealed that what people saw was only a small part of the torture that Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj faced at the hands of Aurangzeb.
"So, the brutality that happened during that time, people have only seen a part of it in Chhaava," he said.
Reduced violence
'Chhaava' torture scenes were a 'toned-down version'
Siingh confirmed the violence depicted in Chhaava was a "toned-down version" of what actually happened.
He elaborated, "So, the brutality that happened during that time, people have only seen a part of it in Chhaava, that too quite toned down."
"Ek maheene se zyada waqt tak aap kisi ko torture karahe ho, agar aap usko shoot karoge, toh aap samajh rahe ho aapko kya dekhne ko milega?"
Violence comparison
Siingh compared film's violence to real-life medical emergencies
Drawing from his medical background, Siingh compared the film's violence to real-life medical emergencies.
He said, "I have been a doctor, and I have seen people coming in the emergency ward after horrific accidents."
"When we used antiseptic to clean their wounds, baap baap chillaate hain log, naani yaad ajaati hai. Even fixing a fracture makes people scream out of pain."
Role preparation
Siingh's preparation for 'Chhaava' role involved visiting shrines
Before shooting for Chhaava, Siingh visited the shrines of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Kavi Kalash ji to get into the character.
He spent half a day there, talking to locals who narrated stories about the historical events shown in the film.
"I talked to several people there, a few old folks who have been living there for years. They told me many stories," he revealed during the podcast interview.
The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, is led by Vicky Kaushal.
