Vijay Sethupathi's 'Viduthalai Part 2' finally announces release date!
The highly-anticipated Tamil crime thriller Viduthalai Part 2 is finally set to hit the theaters. The film's lead actor, Vijay Sethupathi, took to social media on Thursday to announce the release date: December 20. Directed by Vetrimaaran, the movie is a sequel to the earlier released Viduthalai and will continue the narrative of its central characters. The first part was well-received by audiences and critics alike.
Sethupathi shared new posters along with the release date
Sethupathi took to his X/Twitter account to share the scheduled release date of Viduthalai Part 2. He wrote, "Mark your calendars! Maverick director #VetriMaaran's #ViduthalaiPart2 is coming to theaters on December 20, 2024. #ViduthalaiPart2FromDec20. An @ilaiyaraaja Musical, (sic)." The 46-year-old actor, fresh off the success of his film Maharaja (streaming on Netflix) also shared new posters from the film, which have further increased the anticipation among fans.

'Viduthalai Part 2' delves deeper into Perumal's character
Viduthalai Part 2 is reportedly based on B. Jeyamohan's short story Thunaivan and continues the story of Constable Kumaresan, played by Soori. He is assigned to arrest Perumal (portrayed by Sethupathi), who is a teacher and leader of a separatist group. The sequel is expected to explore more about Perumal's character and his motivations, building on the events established in the first part.
Ensemble cast and crew details
The film features a star-studded ensemble cast including Soori as Constable Kumaresan, Sethupathi as Perumal Vaathiyaar, Manju Warrier as Perumal's wife, and Bhavani Sre as Tamilarasi, who is Kumaresan's love interest. The movie also stars Gautham Vasudev Menon as DSP Sunil. The soundtrack for the upcoming movie is composed by the acclaimed Ilaiyaraaja, who also worked on the first part.
