Will 'Viduthalai' get a third installment? Vetrimaaran hints at possibility
Tamil director Vetrimaaran, who received critical acclaim for last year's Viduthalai Part 1, is reportedly contemplating a third installment for the film. The development comes as the shooting for the sequel has already crossed four and a half hours with only 70% of filming completed. While the original Tamil version of Viduthalai Part 1 did not fare well at the box office, its Telugu-dubbed version performed better.
'Viduthalai' Part 2: A shift in focus
Viduthalai, a period crime thriller set in 1987, revolves around a constable tasked with capturing the leader of a separatist movement. The film features an ensemble cast including Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, among others. While Soori played the lead role in the first part, the sequel will focus on Sethupathi's character and his love interest Manju Warrier.
Rumors of a third part circulate
Given the extensive footage already shot for Viduthalai Part 2, rumors are circulating in Chennai that Vetrimaaran is considering a third installment. This decision is yet to be officially confirmed. According to a report by News18, some scenes shown after Part 1 may have been reshot to better align with the storyline envisioned for the sequels. The film's music is composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
Release plans and future projects
The release of Viduthalai Part 2, originally slated for last September, has been delayed due to the extensive shooting schedule. The makers are yet to reveal the new release date. Meanwhile, Vetrimaaran is also working on his long-delayed project Vaadivaasal, starring Suriya. The film's pre-production work, including animatronic effects, is currently in progress. Vaadivaasal is centered around the jallikattu sport—a traditional practice in Tamil Nadu. The film features Andrea Jeremiah and Ameer in key roles.
