Victor Banerjee on suffering stroke: 'I've come back from dead'
Veteran actor Victor Banerjee, who was recently hospitalized following a "minor" stroke, has now returned to his home in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. The 78-year-old National Award-winning actor and Padma Bhushan awardee was admitted to a Mussoorie hospital on August 14 after he complained of chest pain. In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, he opened up about his health scare and his time in the hospital.
'I am walking, talking, and breathing,' said Banerjee
When asked about his health, Banerjee told Zoom, "I got a minor stroke. When I got your message, I was being discharged. Now I am back home in Mussoorie." He added, "Very minor. I am walking, talking, and breathing. Not jumping but that's it." The actor further said that he spent six days in the hospital and quipped, "I've come back from the dead."
Banerjee's wife looked after him 'like an angel'
Banerjee said, "My prayers are most important. Now I have to rest. My doctors have told me I won't be on my feet for at least a month." "My wife looked after me while I was hospital absolutely like an angel." Banerjee also revealed that he had put out a message in Hindi in the papers in Bengal after his hospitalization. It read, "I was on the way up. But because of bad weather in Mussoorie, my ticket was canceled."
Banerjee's last film was 'Raktabeej'
The Dev Bhoomi actor is best known for his roles in David Lean's A Passage to India, Satyajit Ray's Shatranj Ke Khilari, Joggers's Park, Chaurahen, and more. He was last seen in the Bengali action thriller Raktabeej in 2023.
