Veteran actor Dalip Tahil rams car into auto-rickshaw; booked
Veteran actor Dalip Tahil was arrested after a car being driven by him allegedly rammed into an auto-rickshaw in suburban Khar of Mumbai, police said today. The 65-year-old actor's vehicle hit the three-wheeler on Sunday, injuring two passengers sitting inside it. The incident took place when a Ganesh 'visarjan' (immersion) procession was passing through the area, a senior police official said. Here's more.
Tahil had refused to give blood for sobriety test
The two passengers, who were hit, later complained to the police following which Tahil was arrested. Officials said Tahil refused to give his blood sample for testing to ascertain if he was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was later released on bail.
Tahil was charged under various IPC sections, Motor Vehicle Act
A case under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act were registered against Tahil and further probe is on, police said. The actor has worked in many films and is acclaimed for his roles in 'Gandhi', 'Ankur', 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak', and 'Baazigar' among others.
