'Adipurush' and 'Buniyaad' actor Asha Sharma dies at 88
Veteran film and television actor Asha Sharma passed away on Sunday. The news of her demise was confirmed by the Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA), which took to its official X handle to offer condolences. Sharma had a long career and was known for her portrayals as a mother, grandmother, or aunt. May she rest in peace.
Her notable roles in films and television
Sharma first made a mark in the film industry with her role in the 1982 film Do Dishayen, where she played Mrs. Nivaran Sharma. Her filmography includes notable titles such as Insaaf Kaun Karega, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Humko Tumse Pyar Hai, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, and Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai. Her recent project was Adipurush, where she portrayed Shabari. On television, she gained recognition with series like Nukkad (1986) and Buniyaad (1987).
Sharma was reportedly bedridden for a long time
Actor Tina Ghai told ETimes, "Last year, since the release of her film Adipurush, she had four falls which proved fatal. She had been bedridden since last April." Meanwhile, Om Raut, who helmed Adipurush, told the portal, "So unfortunate, what a fantastic actor and human she was, so sad to hear."
Sharma's contribution to short films
Apart from mainstream cinema and television, Sharma also contributed to the world of short films. She was part of Toffee (2017) and The Last Jam Jar (2021). Her diverse body of work, spanning over four decades, includes around 40 films and TV series. Sharma's performances in the television industry earned her a nomination in the Favorite Buzurg Award category at the prestigious Star Parivar Awards, per Times Now.
