Venice Festival's plan: This is how they'd keep Pitt-Jolie apart
The Venice International Film Festival has taken extra measures to ensure that former couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie do not have an awkward run-in. The festival's artistic director, Alberto Barbera, revealed in a recent interview that the event's schedule was carefully planned to prevent any overlap between the two stars' film premieres. The Hollywood actors are currently promoting their respective movies at the festival.
Festival's schedule designed to avoid overlap
According to Barbera, Jolie was scheduled to appear on the first day of the festival, Thursday, August 29. She will leave immediately after with Pablo Larrain, the director of her film Maria. Pitt, on the other hand, will only arrive in Venice on Saturday. "There is no way that they can cross each other at the Lido," said Barbera, referring to the island where the festival is held.
Neither actor requested for schedule change
Despite the festival's efforts to avoid any potential awkward encounters between the two stars, a source revealed that neither Pitt nor Jolie had asked for their films' premieres to be spaced out. "Neither asked for that, they were wise enough to realize," a source said.
More about Jolie, Pitt's films
Jolie arrived in Italy on Wednesday and is set to debut her film Maria, which tells the story of opera singer Maria Callas. Pitt will be in Venice for the premiere of his movie Wolfs, which also stars George Clooney. The film is scheduled to premiere on September 1.
Jolie, Pitt's divorce battle continues
Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016, and the two have been embroiled in a bitter legal battle since then. Their divorce is still pending, although both are legally single. The couple continues to dispute issues including the ownership of their famous French winery, Chateau Miraval. Some of their six children have even dropped Pitt's last name amid the ongoing acrimony.
