'Vedaa' receives U/A certification after CBFC-required cuts
John Abraham and Sharvari's forthcoming film, Vedaa, has been awarded a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The certification was issued on Tuesday (August 6), following the removal of over nine minutes of content. The CBFC necessitated several revisions to the film's content before granting the rating.
CBFC mandated revisions to several scenes
The CBFC required the filmmakers to modify a one-minute and 16-second disclaimer by adding a voiceover. A dialogue perceived as derogatory toward women and social identity was altered, and an offensive term was replaced with a more acceptable one. Additionally, a two-minute and 16-second hanging scene was excised from the film.
Additional CBFC instructions for 'Vedaa' content alterations
The censor board instructed the filmmakers to mute the mention of 'Jodhpur' when referring to the Jodhpur High Court. They also requested a 30% reduction in violent visuals within the court premises. An audio track featuring Sanskrit shlokas that a character listens to in one scene was removed by the board. Furthermore, text reading "Brahmin son...Shudra's son" and scenes depicting the tearing of currency notes were also asked to be blurred.
'Vedaa' producers address struggle for CBFC certification
Earlier, director Nikkhil Advani and the producers of Vedaa issued a joint statement addressing their struggle to secure certification from the CBFC for their Independence Day 2024 release. The statement read, "We, the producers of Vedaa feel compelled to share with our fans and supporters that despite our best efforts, we are still to secure a clearance and certification from the CBFC of India."
'Vedaa' secures CBFC certification, set for release
Following the producers' statement, it was announced that Vedaa would be viewed by the CBFC revising committee on July 29, 2024. The film has now received its CBFC certification. Directed by Advani and produced by Zee Studios in association with Emmay Entertainment and JA Entertainment, Vedaa is scheduled for release on August 15, 2024.
