Box office: John Abraham's 'Vedaa' earns ₹6.52cr on opening day
Nikkhil Advani's action thriller, Vedaa, featuring John Abraham, Sharvari, Abhishek Banerjee, and Tamannaah Bhatia, has garnered ₹6.52 crore at the domestic box office on its first day. Despite trailing behind Stree 2, Vedaa has secured the second position among this week's Bollywood releases. The film's earnings are primarily from the Hindi market (₹6.5 crore), with a minor contribution from Tamil and Telugu markets (₹0.01 crore each).
'Vedaa' marks Abraham's biggest opening in six years
The opening day collection of Vedaa is slightly lower than that of Abraham's previous lead role in the 2022 action thriller, Ek Villain Returns, which had an opening of ₹7.05 crore. However, Vedaa represents Abraham's biggest opening in six years, since his 2018 Independence Day hit, Satyamev Jayate. The actor's highest opening overall remains last year's spy thriller Pathaan, where he played the chief antagonist alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
Meanwhile, 'Stree 2' surpassed 'Vedaa' with ₹54.35cr opening
Another Independence Day release this year, Amar Kaushik's horror-comedy Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has outperformed Vedaa with an impressive opening of ₹54.35 crore. This figure is just a few lakhs short of the Hindi version of Pathaan's collection. The film, also starring Pankaj Tripathi and Bhatia in a cameo role, is a part of Dinesh Vijan's horror-comedy universe. Other than Stree 2 and Vedaa, Khel Khel Mein was also released on Thursday.
'Vedaa': A tale of resilience and defiance
Vedaa is a compelling narrative of defiance and resilience, centered around a young woman named Vedaa (Sharvari) who challenges societal norms. Her quest for justice is backed by a former soldier (Abraham), who becomes her protector and ally. The film is produced by Zee Studios, Umesh Kr Bansal, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, John Abraham, and co-produced by Minnakshi Das.
