Release of Varun Dhawan's 'Baby John' delayed: Here's why
Anticipation is mounting for Varun Dhawan's next, Baby John. However, fans will have to wait a bit longer as the highly-anticipated actioner, originally slated for May 31, has been pushed back, Mid Day reported. This decision was reportedly taken to allow time for the completion of two crucial action sequences. Meanwhile, Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's Mr & Mrs Mahi has already secured the May 31 release slot.
Why does this story matter?
Directed by A. Kaleeswaran, aka Kalees, and produced by Atlee, Murad Khetani, and Priya Atlee, Baby John stars Dhawan alongside Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi. This project marks Dhawan's first collaboration with Atlee, who recently tasted success with Shah Rukh Khan-led Jawan (2023). Additionally, Baby John will be National Film Award recipient Suresh's debut in Bollywood. To note, Dhawan's last theatrical release was Bhediya (2022).
Action sequences delay 'Baby John' release
Elaborating on the reason behind the delay, a source reportedly told the portal, "While Lok Sabha elections on May 13 in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are the main reason [for the change in Kalki 2898 AD's release delay], in the case of Baby John, the makers are delaying to scale up two important stunts. "It requires training and will be shot in May." An announcement from the makers is awaited.
'Baby John will command a solo release': Report
"With Kalki being pushed, the makers want to avoid any clash. Baby John will command a solo release," the report mentioned. Further, the report suggested that director Kalees is currently overseeing the final touches on his upcoming movie, which follows the journey of a DCP who undergoes a transformation and embarks on a journey to safeguard his family. Now tentatively scheduled for release in June end/July, the film is undergoing post-production work, including color grading and visual effects (VFX).
Is 'Baby John' a remake of this Tamil blockbuster?
Rumor has it that Baby John is the Hindi adaptation of Atlee's 2016 Tamil blockbuster Theri, which stars Vijay and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. If true, the film will follow a former cop who assumes a new identity and moves to a tranquil area to safeguard his family. However, when his enemies abduct his daughter, he must reveal his true self and save her. Notably, this gripping cop drama would also be Dhawan's first portrayal of a police officer.
