Vanessa Kirby, David Oyelowo to star in 'The Strange Case'
Acclaimed actors Vanessa Kirby, David Oyelowo, and Sofie Gråbøl are set to lead Audible's upcoming audio drama, The Strange Case. This project marks the first venture into audio drama for Derek Kolstad, the creative mind behind the popular John Wick series. The release of this innovative presentation of the classic Jekyll and Hyde narrative is scheduled for July.
What is the show about?
In this fresh take on the Jekyll and Hyde story, Kirby portrays Dr. Jekyll, an international expert in energy systems. Oyelowo plays her handler Louis, assisting her in navigating politically charged regions like Iran and North Korea. The plot thickens when an arms dealer blames Dr. Jekyll for his family's death, leading her to question her existence and a recurring peculiar dream. Gråbøl plays psychologist Sigrun who helps Dr. Jekyll uncover her sinister alter ego- a ruthless killer named Hyde.

The audio drama's original score is composed by Brittany Allen. Kolstad led the creation and writing of this project with a team of writers namely Mitali Jahagirdar, Laurie Kirwan-Ashman, Nick Luddington, Fallon O'Dowd, and Ayeesha Menon. John Scott Dryden directed and executive-produced the drama. Kolstad is known for his work on popular franchises like John Wick and Nobody, and recently served as a co-executive producer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Kolstad shared his thoughts on his latest project, telling Deadline, "From Treasure Island to Kidnapped and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the work of Robert Louis Stevenson had a profound and lasting effect on me as a child. Merging his universe with contemporary action, suspense, and intrigue has been a delight." He is currently involved in developing the sequel for Nobody with Universal, too.
