How much do rooms at Umaid Bhawan, Priyanka-Nick's wedding-venue, cost?
What's the story
In a classic case of East meets West, Priyanka Chopra is all set to marry Nick Jonas, her fiance of a few months.
The two global stars have gone on their separate bachelor weekends, Priyanka took over Amsterdam and Nick embarked on a sea adventure.
Now all eyes are set on their wedding, which will happen in the royal Umaid Bhawan Palace of Jodhpur.
The venue
The venue is just like the couple
Since the couple is extraordinary, their wedding venue had to be like them too. The palace which has been booked by the couple was built between 1928 and 1943 by Maharaja Umaid Singh.
British architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester was tasked with the project and he took inspiration from Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate, whose architect was Sir Edwin Lutyen.
The result was marvelous.
The palace
The palace was built to provide employment to downtrodden
The palace was built to provide employment to farmers and others when the state was famine-hit.
After Maharaja Umaid Singh died, the palace was passed on to his son Hanwant Singh. Post his death in a plane crash, the palace is taken care of by Maharaja Gaj Singh II of Marwar-Jodhpur, the successor.
Notably, Taj Hotels partly owns the palace now.
